BS in Industrial Engineering- Manufacturing Concentration

The Department of Industrial Engineering offers program leading to BS degree in Industrial Engineering (BSIE) with a Manufacturing Concentration.

The program is designed for engineering undergraduates to obtain both a foundational degree in engineering and acquire fundamental knowledge of the manufacturing discipline. The multi-disciplinary concentration courses cover the main aspects of computer-based design, the conversion of research ideas into product development, cost control and optimization, company startups, cost proposal preparation, operating plan development and supply chain management. The Industrial Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org.

Educational Objectives:

Within the first several years following graduation from the Industrial Engineering program, graduates are expected to be:

  1. Working as professionals by adding value in any one of the following sectors:
    • Service
    • Government
    • Consulting
    • Retail
    • Manufacturing
  2. Pursuing or holding a graduate degree and/or developing professionally through continuing education, licensure, certification and seminars in a new area or their chosen areas of expertise.

Outcomes:

Students who qualify for graduation in the Industrial Engineering program will have demonstrated the following:

  1. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
  2. An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
  3. An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
  4. An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
  5. An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
  6. An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
  7. An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
